The Golden Years with Penny

born H????? Arthur Taylor, December 9, 1924

Arthur has one child, a son named Steve. Steve is married to Patsy and they have two children, Stephanie and Neil.

Arthur's Biography
by Steve

Dad was born in Long Beach, California, to Harold and Alta Taylor. He was an only child, who grew up mostly in Southern California (although he did live in a few other places in California). Alta lived in Torrance, California, where she passed away in 1987.

Harold was a pastor of several churches in California in different places. He also founded and started many churches. Harold and my dad were very active in the Boy Scouts over the years. They were both Scout Masters at one time. We were living in Pine Grove, California, when my grandpa Harold passed away in December 1963. He was the pastor of the Pine Grove Community Church that he had founded in 1953. When he passed away, my dad and mom were both active in the church. Over the years, I can remember my dad singing and leading the music. He had a great voice.

My dad was in the Navy before he met my mom and before he went to college. He was on the aircraft carrier CAPE ESPERANCE in the mid-40s as a radio communications person. I remember my dad telling a story about when they were in a typhoon at sea and almost colliding with the USS Hornet (another carrier, I believe).

After the Navy, my dad went to college at Marion College in Marion, Indiana. He graduated in 1949. He later went on to become a teacher at the elementary level and taught at various schools in California. My dad was teaching in Southern California when he met Penny. They married and lived in Fountain Valley for a few years before moving to Moscow, Idaho, in 1972. There they both got jobs at colleges—Dad at WSU in Pullman, Washington, where he was a painter; and Penny at the University of Idaho in Moscow. My dad’s painting experience came from when dad and Grandpa Harold used to paint houses in the Pine Grove area of Amador County.
They both retired and moved to the neat town of Elk River. They moved to Washington, N.C. in June 1996. Now they live in New Port Richey, Florida.
